One Two Three JUMP!

What a wonderful time Matai has been having in the past few weeks, working on our skipping skills. Here you can see us skipping with a single rope. The class have really enjoyed the challenge of running into a long, turning rope and then getting their timing right to skip. Also running through the moving rope which was challenging for some but soon became a favourite activity.

Maia our Movie Star!

A HUGE Matai thank you to Maia for volunteering to be filmed this week describing herself in Maori. You have such excellent pronunciation and we can all learn from you. Anyone needing help with pronunciation can watch Maia.
We are looking forward to hearing everyone during our talking days this coming week. Miss Standish and I are very proud of your motivation and effort as well as the number of Maori words and phrases you are able to use now.
Keep an eye out during the coming weeks for more Matai Movie Stars.

Maui and the Giant Fish

We have been enjoying the legend of Maui and the Giant Fish. We are learning to re-tell a legend and include all of the important parts.
This is a simple video of the legend. It does not have all the parts we know, but we can use it to share the story with you.

Here is a re-telling of the legend with all the parts we know and it was made by children from Solway School, a few years ago.

Money Fun!

Today a very awesome person called Vane came to talk to us about money. He taught us about saving money and the difference between a credit card and an eft-pos card. We learnt that a credit card uses money you borrow from the bank and you pay it back with a little bit more ( interest). An eft-pos card uses your own money that you have saved in the bank. He told us we could start doing extra chores to earn money -not just tidy our bedroom, but everyones in the house!
He was very funny and made us pretend to go back in time. We also had to "train" to do chores to earn money.   Written by Matai Students.

Here are a couple of photos of Vane in action.
